EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of two wind power plants, Massif du Sud and Lac Alfred (first phase), with an installed capacity of 150 MW each. These facilities are part of a seven-project program in wind energy totaling 1,003.2 MW.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Based in Quebec province, the Massif du Sud wind power plant is located in the south of Quebec City in the Chaudi\u00e8re-Appalaches region, while the Lac Alfred power plant is located in the north-east of Quebec City in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. Each power plant is comprised of 75 wind turbines supplied by REpower and they will generate together sufficient electricity to supply approximately 70,000 average homes. Hydro Qu\u00e9bec will buy the power under 20-year power purchase agreements.<\/p>\n

As part of an agreement between REpower and EDF Energies Nouvelles, the installed turbines include a significant amount of locally manufactured content. The towers, the blades and the converters were built in different regions of Quebec. Developed and built by EDF EN Canada, the projects together generated more than 600 jobs during the construction phase and will create 20 to 30 permanent jobs for operation and maintenance services, which will be provided by EDF Renewable Services Canada. Both companies are local subsidiaries of EDF Energies Nouvelles.<\/p>\n

Following the commissioning of Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind power plant (80 MW) in October 2012, Massif du Sud and Lac Alfred represent the second and third wind energy projects of the seven awarded in 2008 and 2010 to EDF Energies Nouvelles in Canada through Hydro Quebec wind energy calls for tenders. The Company will develop and build under this program, which runs until 2015, a total of 1,003.2 MW in the province.<\/p>\n
