EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of two wind farms, Massif du Sud and Lac Alfred (first phase), with a capacity of 150 MW each. These two achievements are part of a program of seven wind projects totaling 1,003.2 MW.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Located in the province of Quebec, the wind farm of\u00a0Southern Massif<\/strong>\u00a0is located south of Quebec City in the Chaudi\u00e8re-Appalaches region, while the wind farm of\u00a0Lake Alfred<\/strong>\u00a0is located in the northeast of the city in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. The two wind farms each have 75 turbines supplied by the manufacturer REpower. Their cumulative production is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 70,000 homes and will be sold to the energy company Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec Distribution as part of a 20-year electricity sales contract.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the agreement between REpower and EDF Energies Nouvelles, the installed turbines contain a strong local content. The masts, blades and converters were in fact manufactured in different regions of Quebec. Developed and built by EDF EN Canada, the two wind farms generated a total of more than 600 jobs during the construction phase and will create 20 to 30 permanent jobs for operation and maintenance, which will be provided by EDF Renewable Services Canada . These two companies are local subsidiaries of EDF Energies Nouvelles.<\/p>\n

Following the commissioning of the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind farm (80 MW) in October 2012, the Massif du Sud and Lac Alfred wind farms represent the second and third achievements out of the seven wind projects won in 2008 and 2010 by EDF Energies Nouvelles in Canada as part of Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec Distribution's calls for tenders. This implementation program, which runs until 2015, represents the development and construction of 1,003.2 MW in the province.<\/p>\n
