EDF Energies Nouvelles is announcing an agreement between its US subsidiary, EDF Renewable Energy, and Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas), a North American renewable energy company, to acquire the 200 MW Longhorn wind energy project in Texas. Construction on the project, currently in late-stage development, is due to begin by the end of the year in order to qualify it for the Production Tax Credit (PTC).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Located in northern Texas, the Longhorn wind project will take advantage of the Competitive Renewable Energy Zone (CREZ) transmission lines connecting the wind generating capacity of the Texas Panhandle to the state's high electricity demand areas.<\/p>\n

EDF Renewable Energy has secured a long-term, fixed-price hedge agreement for the expected energy production of the project. The project will be built by RES Americas on behalf of EDF Renewable Energy.<\/p>\n

Longhorn represents EDF EN's fifth wind energy project in Texas, following on from the commissioning of the Bobcat Bluff (150 MW) and Spinning Spur (161 MW) facilities in December 2012 and the acquisition of the Spinning Spur II (161 MW, currently under construction ) and Hereford (200 MW, construction due to begin by the end of the year) development projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
