EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the Pinelands power plant (South Carolina) by its American subsidiary, EDF Renewable Energy. Producing renewable energy from recovered wood, this biomass plant is part of EDF Energies Nouvelles' desire to develop in sustainable sectors, complementary to its main activities in wind and solar power.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

With an installed capacity of 35.6 MW, the Pinelands power station comprises two installations of equal capacity which are respectively located in Dorchester and Allendale, densely forested counties of South Carolina. The use of biofuels from forest areas near the power plant is a virtuous logistics system, respectful of environmental issues. The biomass plant also benefits from an abundant and reliable fuel supply, ensuring production stability.<\/p>\n

The wood waste recovery plant brings significant economic benefits to both counties. The construction of the project generated more than 250 jobs. In addition, 38 permanent jobs were created for the operation and maintenance of the plant, carried out by the EDF Renewable Energy subsidiary, EDF Renewable Services. Finally, indirect jobs will be generated locally thanks to supply contracts signed with the timber industries and the road transport network.<\/p>\n

Connected to the Santee Cooper transmission system, the Pinelands Generating Station will supply electricity generated under a 30-year power sales contract.<\/p>\n

This biomass power plant, which is based on an efficient system, is made up of a burner boiler supplied by the Factory Sales Engineering (FSE) plant and a steam turbine generator, manufactured by General Electric (GE).<\/p>\n

To date, EDF Energies Nouvelles has installed more than 120MW of electricity production capacity internationally (France, Belgium, Spain and the United States) for the biogas and biomass sectors.<\/p>\n
