This development is part of the EDF Group&#039;s CAP 2030 strategy to double its net renewables capacity from 28 GW to 60 GW between 2015 and 2030. It will also help meeting the Israeli government&#039;s objective of increasing solar energy&#039;s contribution to the energy mix to 30% by 2030 .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The plant is located close to the historic Timna copper mines in the far south of the country. With its 60 MW in installed capacity, it is one of Israel&#039;s most powerful facilities. Its 154,000 solar photovoltaic panels will represent the first large scale rollout in Israel of the highly efficient bifacial panel technology, which maximizes the energy generated.<\/p>\n<p>The Timna project includes several initiatives aimed at protecting endangered native fauna and flora species, rehabilitating the soil, controlling the runoff of any rare rainwater, and integrating the project into the landscape. This special attention is a testament to the major commitments to protecting the site&#039;s environment made by EDF Renewables.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, the company won the largest competitive tender held in Israel to date, to operate the 100-hectare site for a 25-year period.<\/p>\n<p>Today, EDF Renewables operates 20 solar power plants across the country, with combined capacity of close to 390 MWp. The company is building 14 new projects, including floating solar plants. These innovative floating projects aim at taking advantage of the large water reservoirs across the country and to curb evaporation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Belloy, Executive Vice-President, International Operations of EDF Renewables, <\/strong><strong>declared:<\/strong> <em>\u201cThe commissioning of the Timna solar plant brings one of our finest projects in Israel <\/em><em>to its fruition.
