The EDF Group invests in the startup ECOSUN Innovations and strengthens its range of microgrid offers

EDF Renouvelables, a subsidiary of the EDF Group specializing in wind and solar energy, becomes a partner of ECOSUN Innovations and acquires 29% of its capital. This French startup based in Alsace is developing innovative “microgrid” solutions aimed at providing electricity in isolated areas. ECOSUN Innovations notably markets a range of solar power plants in mobile containers, equipped with storage batteries.

The Mobil-Watt® container is equipped with 9 to 52 kWp of photovoltaic panels and gel or lithium-ion batteries which allow the supply of electricity to be extended several hours after sunset. This solution is mobile, foldable and ready to plug in. . Easy to use, it requires neither civil engineering work nor qualified labor to be deployed.
The ECOSUN Innovations product range, also composed of semi-mobile (Mobil-Grid®) and stationary (Fix-Watt®) containerized solutions between 9 and 144 kWp, is intended for energy, industrial, agricultural, commercial and tertiary, off-grid or connected to lower quality networks. These installations make it possible to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions by replacing self-consumption solar energy with that produced by diesel generators. They are particularly suitable for isolated villages, hotels, camps, dispensaries, service stations or even pumping, watering or water treatment stations.

Carried out through a capital increase reserved for EDF Renewables, this equity investment will allow ECOSUN Innovations to accelerate its development. Already present in Africa, the Caribbean and South America, ECOSUN Innovations aims to develop in the Middle East, South-East Asia, then in Australia.

EDF currently operates 27 microgrids of sizes between 10 kW and 10 MW mainly in island areas. The Group has developed significant expertise in the field for many years, notably through its Research and Development department which commissioned the MASERA microgrid demonstrator in Singapore in 2018, a benchmark for solutions for non-interconnected territories in South Asia. South East.

This partnership is also part of the Group's CAP 2030 strategy, which aims to double its renewable energy production capacities worldwide between 2015 and 2030, bringing them to 50 GW net. Finally, it contributes to EDF's Storage Plan, the ambition of which is to develop 10 GW of additional storage capacity by 2035 worldwide.

Bruno Bensasson, Group Executive Director of EDF in charge of the Renewable Energy Sector and Chairman and CEO of EDF Renewables, declared: “We are pleased to seal this strategic partnership between EDF Renewables and ECOSUN Innovations, whose installations enable communities and businesses in isolated territories to access electricity with low CO2 emissions, particularly in emerging or least developed countries. This investment is part of the EDF Group's desire to expand its range of offers for microgrids and to provide innovative solutions reconciling preservation of the planet and development. ".

Frédéric ROHMER, President of ECOSUN Innovations, added: “ECOSUN Innovations develops and markets a range of Plug and Play solar solutions for off-grid, hybrid and mobile applications below 1MWp. In just a few years, our range has become the widest and most innovative on the market. We are very proud of this cooperation with EDF Renewables which will allow us to further accelerate our industrial and commercial development, as well as to strengthen the competitiveness of our products and their geographic deployment. »
