EDF Renewables and WiSEED launch crowdfunding for the Toucan 2 solar and storage project in Guyana

Since Friday, EDF Renewables, a leading player in wind and solar energy in France, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Toucan 2 photovoltaic project with storage on the leading digital investment platform, WiSEED. This campaign aims to raise €200,000 from the inhabitants of Guyana to help finance the construction of the future photovoltaic power plant.

A virtuous and sustainable regional project, supported by EDF Renewables, co-constructed with the municipality of Montsinéry-Tonnégrande.
The Toucan 2 photovoltaic power plant with storage project (5 MWp), located in the town of Montsinéry-Tonnégrande, complements the Toucan solar power plant with storage in operation since 2015. The future solar power plant will benefit from abundant irradiation over a surface area of almost 5 hectares.

When this extension is commissioned by the end of 2019, the Toucan 1 and 2 installations, with a combined power of 10 MWp, will generate enough energy to meet the electricity needs of nearly 3,600 Guyanese households.

EDF Renewables currently has four solar installations under construction or in operation in Guyana, the latter of which are equipped with a battery storage system.

Launch of a local collection aimed at raising €200,000 to help finance the innovative Toucan 2 photovoltaic project
With the aim of favoring local financing, EDF Renewables is opening a crowdfunding campaign exclusively reserved for residents of the Guyana Region.
They will be offered an annual return of 6% per year (excluding platform fees and/or taxation, unguaranteed return and capital) over a period of 4 years. The investment is accessible from €100.

Beyond the economic benefits, this project gives local residents the opportunity to participate in an innovative project. Adapted to the challenges of the territory, the Toucan 2 solar power plant will be equipped with a storage device which will contribute to the stability of the Guyanese electricity network by absorbing the surplus solar energy produced and restoring it according to the needs of the network.

For David Augeix, Overseas Development Director of EDF Renewables:
EDF Renewables is pleased to launch a new crowdfunding campaign on WiSEED today, and for the first time in Guyana, for the innovative Toucan 2 solar project. This local collection offers the possibility to populations, and to all local stakeholders, to get involved in the development of this regional project and to commit to the energy transition alongside a solid player, leader in the production of electricity from renewable sources in France and in the world ".

For Jean-Marc Clerc, ENR Development Manager at WiSEED: “ We are particularly proud to launch this project with EDF Renewables, since it is the first in Guyana. Our investors already finance numerous projects in overseas departments and regions, but the majority of these investments come from mainland France.
We have not yet offered local collection overseas, and the innovative Toucan 2 solar project is a great opportunity to allow Guyanese people to get involved in the ecological transition.
".
