EDF Renewables and the SITAC Group sign an electricity sales contract for a 300 MW wind project in India

EDF Renewables in India and its local wind partner, the SITAC Group, announce the signing of an electricity sales contract (power purchase agreement – long-term PPA), relating to the production of 300 MW of wind power projects recently won from the Indian Government.

This PPA follows a call for tenders from the Government of India, as part of the fifth competitive process initiated by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project was awarded in September 2018.

The energy produced by the future wind farm will be sold to SECI, an institution of the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy dedicated to the development of renewable energies, as part of a PPA lasting 25 years.

The electricity production from this wind project will cover the annual clean electricity needs of more than 1.3 million Indians.

The development, construction, financing and asset management of this 300 MW wind project are carried out by SITAC Management & Development Pvt. Ltd., the joint venture between EDF Renewables and the SITAC Group dedicated to wind power in India.

Construction of the wind farm will begin in 2019.

“This new project, successfully obtained through our partnership with SITAC, contributes to EDF’s CAP 2030 strategy which aims to double its net renewable capacities worldwide beyond 50 GW, between 2015 and 2030.

With approximately 800 MW of gross wind and solar capacity in operation, under construction or development in India, EDF Renewables is pleased to participate in the country's ambitious goals to combat climate change. declared Bruno Bensasson, Executive Director of EDF in charge of the Renewable Energy Sector and Chairman and CEO of EDF Renewables.

“With this contract, we significantly expand our footprint in the Indian renewable energy market, now totaling 600 MW of operational and contracted wind power. We are thus making an important contribution to the establishment of a clean electricity supply in India, and to the creation of jobs and value for our employees and local partners.” said Malvinder Singh.

  1. Malvinder Singh is the Founder and Chairman of the SITAC Group. As an entrepreneur, he has built several businesses in India, Europe and internationally, notably in the wind energy sector.
