EDF Renewables announces the commissioning of Bluemex, its first solar power plant in Mexico with a capacity of 119.6 MWp, located in the state of Sonora, in the northwest of the country.
The Bluemex photovoltaic solar power plant, which covers more than 340 hectares, is made up of solar panels supplied by Canadian Solar Inc.
The solar project was won in 2016 as part of the second auction for supply certificates and electricity purchase contracts for clean energies led by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE – Federal Electricity Commission). . The construction of the solar power plant mobilized 900 jobs and the operation and maintenance of the installation enabled the creation of 18 long-term local jobs.
Present in Mexico since 2001, EDF Renewables currently operates 1 GW of wind and solar energy in the country. This entry into the solar market contributes to achieving the objectives set out in the EDF Group's strategy, Cap 2030, which aims to double
EDF's renewable capacities worldwide, between 2015 and 2030, to bring them to 50 GW net.
EDF Renewables is among the leading producers of renewable energy in North America with 16 GW gross of wind, solar and storage projects deployed across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
