EDF Energies Nouvelles has signed an electricity supply contract (PPA: Power Purchase Agreement) for the Stoneray wind project with a capacity of 100 MW, via its North American subsidiary, EDF Renewable Energy.
The United States is a key market for the EDF Group, which aims to double its renewable capacities by 2030, as part of its Cap 2030 strategy.
The Stoneray wind project is located in Pipestone and Murray counties, in the southwest of the state of Minnesota.
The installation will have up to 50 turbines. Its construction should begin in early 2018 and its commissioning is planned during the winter of 2018-2019.
The wind project benefits from a long-term power supply contract with the Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA).
The project should create more than 150 jobs on the site and ten long-term full-time jobs.
At full capacity, the wind farm is expected to produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 47,000 Minnesota homes.
A subsidiary of EDF Énergies Nouvelles in North America, EDF Renewable Energy, is one of the main players in renewable energies in the United States, Canada and Mexico with 9 gigawatts of projects under development in the fields of wind energy and mainly solar.
