EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of additional capacities for the Arada-Montemuro (9.2 MW) and São Pedro (2 MW) wind farms in Portugal. These extensions bring the cumulative installed capacity of the two parks to 133 MW.
Located in the Central Region of Portugal, the Arada-Montemuro wind farm, commissioned in 2008, is hosting a 9.2 MW extension bringing its total installed capacity to 121 MW. Initially composed of 56 turbines of 2 MW of unit capacity, the wind power plant was completed with four turbines of 2.3 MW each.
In the same region, the São Pedro wind farm, made up of five 2 MW turbines when it was commissioned by the company in 2005, today has a total installed capacity of 12 MW with the installation of a additional 2 MW turbine.
With a cumulative power of 133 MW, the annual electricity production of these wind farms is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of nearly 255,000 Portuguese inhabitants.
Currently, EDF Energies Nouvelles has 507 MW of gross wind energy in this country.
Historically the first country where EDF Energies Nouvelles has established itself abroad, Portugal, has set itself the ambitious objective of reaching 45% of renewable energy production in its energy mix, by 2020.
