EDF Energies Nouvelles announces its acquisition of a stake in 96%, via its American subsidiary EDF Renewable Energy, in a 175 MW wind project from Orion Energy Group and Vision Energy LCC. This project, Pilot Hill, located in Illinois, benefits from a 20-year power sales contract with Microsoft Corporation.
Located 96 km southwest of Chicago, the future park will be connected to the electrical network that powers Microsoft's data center, based in Chicago.
Physical construction on site will begin very soon. The turbines will be supplied by General Electric (GE) and Vestas. Its commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2015.
“The direct ownership of their renewable energy supply by iconic organizations like Micorsoft is an encouraging trend. This investment in the wind sector allows these companies to reduce their carbon footprint and control their long-term energy costs,” says Ryan Pfaff, Executive Vice President of EDF Renewable Energy.
With 5.7 GW of renewable projects developed across the United States, Canada and Mexico, EDF Energies Nouvelles is among the largest developers of renewable energy in North America.
