With the commissioning of the second tranche of the Rivière-du-Moulin wind farm (200 MW), EDF Energies Nouvelles announces that it has built its most powerful wind installation in Quebec.
With a total capacity of 350 MW, the Rivière-du-Moulin park was developed, built and commissioned in its entirety by EDF EN Canada, the group's local subsidiary.
The second phase of the Rivière-du-Moulin wind farm, with a capacity of 200 MW, is made up of 100 turbines.
With a total installed capacity of 350 MW, the Rivière-du-Moulin wind power plant – of which a first tranche of 150 MW has been operational since the end of 2014 – becomes the most powerful of EDF Energies Nouvelles in the world.
The electricity generated by all of Rivière-du-Moulin corresponds to the annual energy consumption of approximately 70,700 Canadian homes.
The entire production of Rivière-du-Moulin is purchased by Hydro-Québec Distribution as part of a 20-year electricity purchase contract. As such, Rivière-du-Moulin is also the largest wind farm in Canada to have been commissioned under a single power purchase contract.
Operation and maintenance of the park is carried out by EDF Renewable Services, the North American subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles dedicated to this activity.
Rivière-du-Moulin, developed and built by EDF EN Canada, is one of the seven wind farm projects in the one gigawatt program won by the group as part of Hydro-Québec Distribution's calls for tenders.
