EDF Energies Nouvelles commissions a first 80 MW wind farm in Canada

Continuing its development in wind power in North America, EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of its first Canadian wind farm, Saint-Robert-Bellarmin, in Quebec, with an installed capacity of 80 MW. This achievement is the first in a program of seven projects totaling 1,003.2 MW.

Located in the province of Quebec, in the southeast of Estrie, the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind farm has forty wind turbines with a unit power of 2 MW, supplied by the manufacturer REpower. The annual production of the park, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 18,000 homes, will be sold to the energy company Hydro-Québec Distribution as part of a 20-year electricity supply contract.

This achievement is one of seven projects won in 2008 by EDF Energies Nouvelles in Canada as part of Hydro-Québec Distribution's wind calls for tenders. The implementation program, which runs until 2015, represents the development and construction of 1,003.2 MW. Two other wind projects, Massif du Sud (150 MW) and Lac Alfred (300 MW), are also under construction.

As part of an agreement between REpower and EDF Energies Nouvelles, the installed turbines have a strong local content. The masts, blades and converters were in fact manufactured in different regions of Quebec.

The Saint-Robert-Bellarmin project was developed and carried out by EDF EN Canada, the operation and maintenance of the wind farm will be ensured by EDF Renewable Services, both local subsidiaries of EDF Energies Nouvelles.

" VSThis achievement is the realization of the exceptional development and construction efforts of our Quebec team », declares Tristan Grimbert, President and CEO of EDF EN Canada. “ The development potential of wind power in Quebec is significant and this first success illustrates the dynamism of EDF Energies Nouvelles in Canada, which is a country where we have great ambitions.  »
