EDF Energies Nouvelles commissions the 200 MW Longhorn wind farm in Texas

EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the Longhorn wind farm by its North American subsidiary, EDF Renewable Energy. This new wind installation with a power of 200 MW brings the capacity installed by the group in the state of Texas to almost one gigawatt.

Located in the north of the state of Texas, the Longhorn wind farm is made up of 100 Vestas turbines with a unit power of 2 MW, for a total installed capacity of 200 MW. The energy production of the Longhorn wind facility is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 55,000 Texas homes.

The Longhorn wind farm is connected to the North Texas connection line, CREZ (“Competitive Renewable Energy Zones”), which allows wind production from these particularly windy areas to be transported to areas of high consumption in the state. . The electricity produced by the wind farm is sold on the local free electricity market ERCOT (“Electric Reliability Council of Texas”) and benefits from a long-term fixed price hedging contract.

Operation and maintenance of the installation is carried out by EDF Renewable Services, the North American subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles dedicated to this activity.

After Spinning Spur 1 (161 MW), Spinning Spur 2 (161 MW), Bobcat Bluff (150 MW) and Hereford (200 MW), Longhorn (200 MW) is the group's fifth wind farm commissioned in Texas.

In May 2015, EDF Energies Nouvelles commissioned 872 MW out of a global portfolio of one gigawatt to be built by the end of 2015 in this state of the United States.
