EDF Energies Nouvelles commissions the Lac-Alfred phase 2 wind farm (150 MW) in Quebec

EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the second phase of the Lac-Alfred wind farm by EDF EN Canada, its local subsidiary. With an installed capacity of 150 MW, it brings the total capacity of the Lac-Alfred park to 300 MW, which thus becomes one of the largest wind power plants in Quebec.

After a little more than two years of construction, the Lac-Alfred wind farm is fully commissioned. 150 MW were added to the 150 MW commissioned in January 2013. In its entirety, the park generates the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of around 70,000 homes.

The wind farm is co-owned at 50% by EDF EN Canada and the Enbridge group. The electricity produced by the plant is purchased by Hydro-Quebec as part of a 20-year electricity supply contract.

The 150 turbines (75 installed during each phase) were supplied by the manufacturer REpower. EDF Renewable Services, a local subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, will ensure the operation and maintenance of the park.

With the commissioning of three wind farms, Saint-Robert-Bellarmin (80 MW), Massif Sud (150 MW) and Lac-Alfred (300 MW), EDF Energies Nouvelles has already achieved more than half of the 1 GW program won in 2008 and 2010 as part of Hydro-Quebec Distribution calls for tenders.
