EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the Nicolas-Riou wind farm with an installed capacity of 224 MW, via its local subsidiary EDF EN Canada.
With this new commissioning, EDF Energies Nouvelles has installed more than 1.6 GW of wind and solar power in Canada.
The Nicolas-Riou wind farm is located in the southeast of the province of Quebec. With an installed capacity of 224.25 MW, it is made up of 65 turbines with a unit capacity of 3.45 MW.
The Nicolas-Riou wind project is co-owned at 50% by EDF EN Canada and at 33% by the Régie intermunicipale de l'énergie du Bas-Saint-Laurent (RIEBSL), a company belonging to all of the Regional Municipalities of Bas Counties -Saint-Laurent, as well as the Maliseet First Nation of Viger.
The remaining 17% shares depend on the Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine intermunicipal energy board (RIEGÎM).
The companies jointly signed with Hydro-Québec Distribution a 25-year electricity supply contract (PPA: Power Purchase Agreement) for this wind farm.
EDF Energies Nouvelles won the Nicolas-Riou project in 2013 as part of a call for tenders.
