EDF Energies Nouvelles commissions a new 161 MW wind farm in Texas

EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning, by its American subsidiary EDF Renewable Energy, of the Spinning Spur 2 wind farm (161 MW) in Texas. The group is thus strengthening its presence in Texas where it has a gigawatt already in service or to be built by 2015.

Spinning Spur 2 is located 60 km from Amarillo, Texas. This 161 MW wind farm is made up of 87 wind turbines supplied by General Electric, whose production is equivalent to the annual electricity needs of approximately 44,000 American homes.

Following the completion of the park, the lifting of the suspensive conditions allowed EDF Renewable Energy to sell a 50% stake in the project to UBS. This sale is in line with the financial partnership policy initiated by EDF Energies Nouvelles to reinvest in the development of new projects.

The electricity produced by the park is sold at a fixed price under an eleven-year purchase contract.

With 12.3 GW of installed wind capacity, the state of Texas combines both natural conditions and a favorable political-economic environment. After the Spinning Spur 1 (161 MW) and Bobcat Bluff (150 MW) wind farms in service since December 2012, the Spinning Spur 2 project is the third project by EDF Energies Nouvelles in Texas. Today, the Group has completed 472 MW in this US state out of the one gigawatt portfolio to be built by 2015.
