EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning in South Africa of the Chaba wind farm with an installed capacity of 21.5 MW, by its local subsidiary Innowind.
To date, the group has built two wind farms in the country with a total capacity of 83 MW.
Located in the Eastern Cape province, the Chaba wind farm, won as part of a South African government tender, consists of seven Vestas V112 turbines with a unit capacity of 3.075 MW.
In accordance with the specifications, part of the turnover generated by the sale of electricity aims to promote entrepreneurship and support local economic development.
The park is co-owned at 40% by local partners, the remaining 60% belong to InnoWind (a subsidiary of 80% of EDF Energies Nouvelles).
Purchased by the network manager, as part of a 20-year contract, the energy generated by the wind installation can supply electricity to more than 14,000 South African homes.
To date, EDF Energies Nouvelles has commissioned two of the four parks that the group won under the South African government's tender program. Three parks totaling 105 MW were awarded in 2012 and a new 33 MW park was won in the first half of 2015.
