EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the Le Granit and La Mitis wind farms in Quebec, by its local Canadian subsidiary, EDF EN Canada. With a combined installed capacity of nearly 50 MW, these two new installations are part of the one gigawatt wind power construction program awarded to EDF EN Canada by Hydro-Quebec Distribution.
The Le Granit wind farm is located in the Regional County Municipality (MRC) of Le Granit, in the Estrie region. The La Mitis wind installation is located in the MRC of La Mitis, in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. With a respective installed capacity of 24.6 MW, each wind farm is made up of 12 Senvion wind turbines, with a unit power of 2.05 MW.
These two power plants are owned by EDF EN Canada for 70%. The remaining 30% belong to the company dedicated to the energy of each MRC concerned by the project.
The energy produced by these two wind farms is supplied to Hydro-Québec Distribution under a 20-year electricity purchase contract.
With five wind farms commissioned, Saint-Robert-Bellarmin (80 MW), Massif Sud (150 MW), Lac-Alfred (300 MW), Le Granit (24.6 MW) and La Mitis (24.6 MW) , EDF Energies Nouvelles has completed more than half of the one gigawatt program to be installed by the end of 2015.
