EDF Energies Nouvelles begins work at sea on the Teesside offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom

EDF Energies Nouvelles has started work at sea on the Teesside offshore wind farm, in the north-east of England. This park, with an installed capacity of 62 MW, should come into service before the end of 2012.

Located in the north east of England, off the coast of Redcar, this wind farm will include 27 offshore wind turbines, supplied by Siemens. With a total installed capacity of 62 MW, it will provide the British grid with the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 40,000 homes and avoid the emission of around 200,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

The wind farm offshore of Teesside was developed and is carried out by EDF Energy Renewables, a British subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles owned equally with EDF Energy. Work began in 2011 with the construction of an onshore electrical substation and connection to the network. The work at sea began on February 2, it began with the installation of the monopile foundations, then will continue with the assembly of the wind turbines. The park is expected to come into operation by the end of 2012.

“It’s an exciting but very demanding project. The construction of an offshore wind farm is much more complex than that of a traditional wind farm, due to the constraints linked to the marine environment. declares Christian Egal, general manager of EDF Energy Renewables. “I also salute the work of the team which was able to reconcile technical, administrative and environmental issues and ensure successful consultation with fishermen and all local stakeholders, so that this excellent project sees the light of day. »

EDF Energies Nouvelles' second offshore wind project, after that of C-Power (325 MW) in Belgium, the Teesside park represents a new opportunity for EDF Energies Nouvelles to implement its know-how in offshore wind power and to continue its development in Europe.
