EDF EN Mexico, the Mexican subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, announces the finalization of an agreement with Eolia Renovables de Inversiones, a major independent European producer of wind and solar electricity, relating to the acquisition of two wind projects in Mexico, with a total capacity of 324 MW.
These two wind projects, currently under development, are located in the south of Mexico, in the very windy region of Oaxaca, where EDF EN Mexico already operates the La Mata La Ventosa wind farm (67.5 MW). The first, Eoliatec del Istmo, will have an installed capacity of 164 MW, and the second, Eoliatec del Pacifico, with an installed capacity of 160 MW.
The construction of these projects should be launched quickly in order to be completed by 2012-2013. According to commercial agreements, and in compliance with Mexican legislation, the electricity produced by these wind farms will be purchased by a set of Mexican and international groups under long-term purchase contracts.
This operation allows the EDF EN group to strengthen its positioning in North America and accelerate its development in Mexico, which has a high-quality wind resource and promising potential in solar power.
