enXco, the American subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, announces the signing of an agreement with Cielo Wind Power, developer and operator of wind power plants, to acquire the Spinning Spur wind project in development in Texas, with a capacity of 161 MW.
The Spinning Spur wind project, located in Oldham County, west of Amarillo, Texas, has 70 Siemens turbines with a unit capacity of 2.3 MW.
The electricity produced will be sold to the American company Southwestern Public Company, a 100% subsidiary of Xcel Energy, under a 15-year power sales contract (PPA).
Construction is due to start in the first half of the year with commissioning of the park planned for December 2012.
This project will be enXco's first wind farm in Texas. This acquisition strengthens the production capacities of EDF Energies Nouvelles and its position in the United States.
“The situation of the wind market in the United States and the uncertainty over the renewal of the tax credit (Production Tax Credit) after 2012 create partnership opportunities with major developers like Cielo Wind Power. Above all, it is an ideal opportunity for us to invest in the Texas market as a producer of wind-generated electricity,” declared David Corchia, Managing Director of EDF Energies Nouvelles.
