Paris/New Delhi, 1er October 2020 – EDF Renewables and Total Eren, two world leaders in renewable energies, are pleased to announce that EDEN Renewables India, their joint venture dedicated to solar energy in the Indian market and owned equally, has won three photovoltaic power plant projects of a total of 1,350 MWp in Rajasthan, in northern India.
EDEN Renewables has established itself among the leaders of the solar market in India, with a current global portfolio of more than 2,200 MWp of capacity under development, construction and operation spread across the states of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, 'Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Between April and July 2020, EDEN Renewables India won:
- two photovoltaic projects of 450 MWp[1] during the latest calls for tenders organized by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI VIII and SECI IX);
- a 450 MWp1 photovoltaic project during the last call for tenders organized by the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) and with which a 25-year electricity sales contract (PPA) was signed at the end of August 2020.
With an expected production of more than 2,300 GWh per year, these future solar power plants will supply electricity to the equivalent of nearly 2 million people in India each year.
Construction will start in the first half of 2021 and commissioning is planned for early 2022.
These recent successes follow the signing last year by EDEN Renewables India of long-term 25-year electricity sales contracts for four photovoltaic projects. These projects in northern India represent a total of 716 MWp[2] capacity to install. One of them, “SECI III” (450 MWp), located in Rajasthan, has been under construction since April 2020. Its commissioning is planned for the first half of 2021.
EDEN Renewables India has ensured the development, construction and operation of photovoltaic power plants in India since 2016. Through their local presence, and in particular a team of experts based in New Delhi, EDF Renewables and Total Eren are already operating four photovoltaic power plants in India.
Fabienne Demol, Executive Vice President – Global Head of Development of Total Eren, said : “With these three photovoltaic plants, we are very pleased to have reached a new milestone following the signing last year of four long-term electricity purchase contracts. I would like to extend my congratulations to all the teams for this success which occurs despite the COVID-19 crisis. I am enthusiastic about working on these photovoltaic projects with our partner EDF Renewables, through our joint subsidiary EDEN Renewables India which plays a key role in achieving our ambitions in the Indian market. Together, we are committed to providing sustainable, low-carbon electricity that meets the Indian government's objective of increasing the share of renewable energy in India. ».
Frederic Belloy, Executive Vice-President, International Operation of EDF Renewables, added : " We are happy to have won 1,350 MWp of projects photovoltaic additional via EDEN Renewables India. These new successes will significantly strengthen the position of our joint venture with our partner Total Eren. These successes highlight the level of expertise remarkable achievement by EDEN Renewables India in the field of energy photovoltaic. These emblematic projects are perfectly consistent with the EDF group's Cap 2030 strategy, which aims to double its net renewable energy capacities, globally, between 2015 and 2030, increasing them from 28 GW to 50 GW. Through our developments in renewable energies, we are pleased to participate in the Indian government's ambition to increase the production of electricity from non-fossil sources to 220 GW by 2022.”
