EDF Renewables in North America has signed a contract with York Nebraska Wind Partners, LLC, a partnership of Aksamit Resource Management, LLC and York Capital Management, to acquire the 300 MW Milligan 1 wind project.
Currently under development, the project located in the state of Nebraska in the United States is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2020.
This operation contributes to EDF's CAP 2030 strategy, which aims to double its renewable capacities operated worldwide to beyond 50 GW net, between 2015 and 2030.
Located in Saline County in southern Nebraska, Milligan 1 is EDF Renewables' first wind project in the state.
Energy produced by the project will be sold to Southwest Power Pool and will benefit from Renewable Energy Credits (REC).
At full capacity, the electricity generated by the future wind farm will power the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 115,000 homes on average. The release of more than 900,000 metric tons of CO₂ per year1 will thus be avoided, namely the greenhouse gas emissions produced by 190,000 passenger vehicles during a year.
EDF Renewables is a major player in the renewable energy sector in North America with a developed capacity of 15 GW gross from wind, solar and energy storage projects in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
1 According to calculations relating to greenhouse gas equivalences, carried out by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
