EDF Renewables signs an electricity sales contract for a wind project of more than 200 MW in Canada

EDF Renewables in Canada announces the signing of a RESA (Renewable Electricity Support Agreement), a support agreement for renewable electricity with AESO (Alberta Electricity System Operator), the manager of Alberta's electricity network. This twenty-year contract covers the Cypress wind project, with a capacity of 201.6 MW.

Cypress benefits from a power supply contract (PPA), won during the second phase of calls for tenders of the REP (Renewable Electricity Program), managed by the AESO on behalf of the government of the province of Alberta.

This PPA is part of a partnership between EDF Renewables, Canada and the Blood Tribe, First Nation.

This new project thus contributes to the EDF Group's CAP 2030 strategy, which aims to double its renewable capacities worldwide between 2015 and 2030, to reach 50 GW.

The Cypress Wind Project is located in the Cypress County of the Province of Alberta. It extends over private land of more than 4,600 hectares, located on the traditional territory of the Gens-du-Sang tribe.

The project is planned for 2020, after obtaining the required permits and authorizations from provincial and municipal authorities.

It should mobilize more than 250 jobs at the peak of construction.

When commissioned in 2021, the facility with an installed capacity of 201.6 MW will generate the equivalent of the annual power supply for nearly 100,000 homes in Alberta.

To date, EDF Renewables has nearly 1.6 GW of wind power built or under construction in Canada.
