THE September 6 2018 – After a 1e branch created in 2015 in Villers-le-Bouillet, EDF Renewables, the subsidiary of the EDF Group dedicated to renewable energies, and EDF Luminus are today officially inaugurating their 2e operation-maintenance (O&M) antenna in the premises of the IDETA Territorial Development Agency in Froyennes. Objective: to enable the team of 5 local maintenance technicians to intervene quickly on customers' renewable energy installations in Wallonia Picardy and neighboring regions.
Through their local joint venture EDF Renewables Belgium, EDF Luminus and EDF Renewables provide maintenance and operation services to operators of wind farms and industrial photovoltaic power plants on Belgian territory. These services aim on the one hand to optimize the lifespan of their installations and on the other hand to improve their performance and output.
Agility amplified by proximity
Located in Villers-le-Bouillet, in the province of Liège, in the immediate vicinity of the installations for which it is responsible, the first antenna already covered the operation and maintenance of four wind farms, i.e. 33 turbines for 71 MW of installed capacity: Villers -le-Bouillet and Wanze (8 wind turbines – 12 MW), Walcourt (6 wind turbines – 9 MW), Sovet (6 wind turbines – 20.4 MW), Fernelmont (3 wind turbines – 6.9 MW), Floreffe (7 wind turbines – 16 .1MW) and Geel Laakdal (3 wind turbines – 6.6MW).
Added to this today are 26 wind turbines for a total power of 57.3 MW: Tournai (8 wind turbines – 17.6 MW), Estaimpuis (5 wind turbines – 11 MW), Kortrijk and Leuze (13 wind turbines – 28.7 MW).
In total, with this new antenna, the subsidiary currently maintains 59 wind turbines, for a total power of 128.3 MW.
A job-creating activity with a strong territorial dimension
Having started in 2015 with a staff of 4 people, the joint venture today employs 5 people in Froyennes and 12 in Villers-le-Bouillet, for a total of 17 people full time. The objective, announced during the creation of the 1e antenna, to triple the number of staff, has therefore been largely exceeded.
The installation of this antenna in Picardy Wallonia strengthens the territorial dimension of the partnership between IDETA and EDF Luminus in terms of wind energy development. It will encourage the implementation of other future renewable energy production projects in the region. This is a new stage of an essential project for the region's energy transition. As a player in economic development, IDETA is delighted to welcome into its premises a new company creating jobs in the region, which has concrete development prospects.
A new profession on Belgian territory, serving other owners of renewable energy installations
The services offered by EDF Renewables and EDF Luminus through this joint subsidiary are unique on the Belgian market thanks to full-scope contracts, 24-hour remote monitoring and control of installations, an availability guarantee, multi-functional expertise. -turbines and joint work with customers to improve the performance of the parks.
These assets, combined with EDF Renewables' expertise in the operation and maintenance of renewable energy installations, with more than 14 GW under management worldwide*, and the strong local roots of EDF Luminus in Belgium , today allow the company to gradually make its know-how available to other operators of renewable energy installations, whether wind farms or photovoltaic power plants on an industrial scale.
In the longer term, the company aims to become a key player on the Belgian market thanks to its unique expertise, which allows it to manage the operation and maintenance of several turbine technologies and types of turbines. renewable installations.
