EDF Energies Nouvelles develops its wind portfolio in western Canada

EDF EN Canada, the Canadian subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, announces the acquisition of the 300 MW Blackspring Ridge wind project located in the province of Alberta in Canada. This acquisition is being made in partnership with the company Enbridge, an energy supplier operating on the North American continent. EDF EN Canada will own 50% of this fleet. The agreement concluded with Greengate power Corporation, the original developer of the project, allows EDF Energies Nouvelles to establish itself in western Canada.

This wind project, made up of 166 Vestas turbines with a unit power of 1.8 MW, is entering its final phase of development. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2013 with completion expected in mid-summer 2014. Once operational, Blackspring Ridge will be the largest wind farm in the province of Alberta.

“This acquisition reflects our desire to strengthen our position in wind power in Western Canada. This is a real opportunity to consolidate our assets and our leadership position in the North American renewable energy market.” Declares Antoine Cahuzac, Managing Director of EDF Energies Nouvelles.

Once in service, the Blackspring Ridge park will provide the equivalent of the heating and heating domestic electricity consumption of approximately 140,000 homes.
