Nearly 1.4 gigawatt (GW) of projects in Latin America for EDF Energies Nouvelles

With 648 MW recently won in new solar and wind projects to be built, EDF Energies Nouvelles is significantly accelerating its development in Latin America. In the area, the Group's renewable energy projects, already operational or to be commissioned in the coming years, now represent 1,368 MW.
Thus, three solar projects, for a total of 396 MWp, were acquired or won in Chile, Brazil and Mexico. In the latter country, the Group also won a 252 MW wind project.

The EDF Energies Nouvelles group is expanding and diversifying its project portfolio through its local subsidiaries EDF EN do Brasil, EDF EN Chile and EDF EN Mexico.

Entry into solar energy in Brazil

In Brazil, where EDF Energies Nouvelles is already developing wind projects, the Group announces the acquisition of 80% from the Pirapora I project (191 MWp), in the south-east of the country, from Canadian Solar Inc., developer and manufacturer of photovoltaic panels. The future plant benefits from a 20-year electricity supply contract (PPA).

Success in wind and photovoltaics during the call for tenders launched by Mexico

In Mexico, the Group is also entering the solar sector by winning the Bluemex project, with a capacity of 90 MWac, as part of a national call for tenders. Located in the state of Sonora, the future power plant will be made up of bifacial photovoltaic cells and will benefit from a fixed rate over a period of 15 years.
Following this same Mexican call for tenders, the Gunaa Sicarú wind project (252 MW) is added to the 391 MW of wind farms operated by the Group in Mexico. It will be located in the state of Oaxaca.

Continued development in photovoltaics in Chile

Located north of the Chilean capital, the 115 MWp Santiago Solar photovoltaic project is owned equally by EDF Energies Nouvelles and Andes Mining Energy (AME), local developer. Part of the production of the solar project will benefit from PPAs over 15 years concluded with around twenty distributors; the rest will be sold on the market.

Antoine Cahuzac, Executive Director of the Renewable Energies Sector of EDF and Managing Director of EDF Energies Nouvelles declared: “ With these new large-scale projects in Latin America, EDF Energies Nouvelles demonstrates its ability to carry out projects in promising and competitive markets alongside local partners who have proven knowledge of the context. Our future portfolio of 1.4 GW wind and solar farms will contribute significantly, like the future Brazilian SINOP hydraulic dam, to the objective of doubling renewable capacities targeted by the EDF Group by 2030 ".

By 2019, the Group will have installed 542.5 MWp of solar capacity in the area, in particular the Boléro solar project, currently under construction in Chile, and 826 MW of wind power with its current Mexican wind farms in operation, and those under construction in Brazil.
