Continuing its development in India, EDF Energies Nouvelles is taking a position in onshore wind power with the acquisition of 50% of the shares of SITAC Wind Management and Development, an Indian company dedicated to wind power.
In the presence of the President of the French Republic as part of his trip to India and the Indian Prime Minister, Jean-Bernard Levy, Chairman and CEO of the EDF Group, sealed the partnership contract with Malvinder Singh, founder and majority shareholder of the group Indian SITAC.
By the end of the year, the joint company plans to install 142 MW of power.
This joint company becomes the subsidiary dedicated to the wind activity in India of EDF Energies Nouvelles. It is co-owned with the SITAC group, specializing in real estate and which has developed expertise in wind energy in India since 2007.
The partnership between SITAC and EDF Energies Nouvelles aims to cover all wind power professions: the development, construction, financing and operation-maintenance of wind farms in India.
Four projects for a total of 142 MW of installed capacity will be carried out in 2016. Located in the state of Gujarat, one of the windiest in India, they each benefit from a power sales contract (PPA) for a period of 25 years, signed with GUVNL, the local electricity distribution company.
The joint company has promising future prospects in the country.
This new partnership strengthens the position of EDF Energies Nouvelles on the Indian market. Since its establishment in 2013 through the local subsidiary ACME Solar dedicated to photovoltaic solar in which it holds 25% of shares, EDF Energies Nouvelles has installed a total of 180 MWp of solar capacity and is currently building 132 MWp of projects in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Telangana.
India, through the size of its market, the abundance of its natural resources and its proactive policy of supporting renewable energies, represents a country at the heart of EDF Energies Nouvelles' international development strategy.
