EDF Energies Nouvelles announces the commissioning of the Pilot Hill wind farm in Illinois, by its North American subsidiary EDF Renewable Energy. The electricity generated by this wind farm, with an installed capacity of 175 MW, is purchased by Microsoft Corporation.
Located about a hundred kilometers from Chicago, in the northeast of the state of Illinois, the Pilot Hill wind power plant with a capacity of 175 MW is made up of 103 turbines.
The energy produced by this new installation powers the Microsoft Corporation data center located in Illinois, as part of a 20-year electricity sales contract.
EDF Renewable Energy announced a similar contract with Procter & Gamble in October 2015. EDF Renewable Energy thus responds to the growing demand from major American institutional and industrial players who wish to supply their sites with energy from renewable sources.
With nearly 2.7 GW gross installed capacity in the United States, and the signing of contracts with renowned American companies, the local subsidiary of the EDF Energies Nouvelles group is a benchmark in the renewable energy sector.
