EDF EN Canada Inc., a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, has partnered with Enbridge Inc. in order to acquire the Alberta based 300 MW Blackspring Ridge project. The purchase agreement that has been signed with Greengate Power Corporation, the original developer of the Blackspring Ridge projetct, enables EDF EN Canada Inc. to expand its development expertise in Western Canada.
The Blackspring Ridge Wind Project, located in Vulcan County north of Lethbridge, Alberta, is currently in late stage development and will be comprised of 166 Vestas V100-1.8 MW wind turbines. Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2013 and reach commissioning in mid-summer 2014. When operational, Blackspring Ridge will be the largest wind project in the province.
“Adding this project to our Canadian portfolio reflects our will to establish EDF EN Canada in the western part of the country. This project presents an opportunity to optimize assets and preserve our leadership position in North America”, said Antoine Cahuzac, CEO at EDF Energies Nouvelles.
When operational, Blackspring Ridge wind farm will supply a clean energy for approximately 140,000 homes.
